Have You Ever Met A Very Influential Person That Everyone
Have you ever met a very influential person that everyone has a different opinion on? Robert Strange McNamara was the secretary of Defense under John F. Kennedy and Lyndon B. Johnson throughout the 1960s. This was the time period when the United States was involved in the Vietnam War as well and the Cold War against the Soviet Union. In addition, McNamara was hired by the head of the Ford automobile company to help revamp their company. In late 1960, McNamara became the president of the entire Ford company. After this, McNamara served as president of the World Bank from 1968-1981. He greatly impacted the Cold War as well as the Vietnam War. After McNamara left the army air force with many awards, he along with eight other high ranking management experts from the army air force formed a company to help businesses succeed. Soon after, The Ford Motor Company who desperately needed a new business strategy the eight former management experts. The workers who hired McNamara were so impressed with McNamaraââ¬â¢s business strategies that they offered him a more advanced job at Ford. Within a few years, McNamara became so respected that in 1960, he was offered the opportunity to become president of Ford (ââ¬Å"McNamara, Robert. Biographies Volume 2â⬠). A little more than one month later, McNamara left his presidency at Ford when President John F. Kennedy offered him the position of Secretary of Defense. McNamara accepted this position, and was sworn into office on January 21, 1961. He used the Planning, Programming, Budgeting Systems to improve the efficiency. McNamara also maximized efficiency by seeing what military bases were not being used and closing those ones.
